STOCKTON – Former Colombian President César Gaviria speaks at 6 tonight in a free public lecture at Faye Spanos Concert Hall on the campus of University of the Pacific.

Gaviria’s address, “New Directions: The Future of U.S.-Latin American Relations,” is part of the Gerber Lecture Series that began in 2001 thanks to an endowment from Golden Globe, Emmy and Peabody award winner David Gerber and his wife, Laraine.

Gerber graduated from Pacific in 1950 and married Laraine at Morris Chapel on the Stockton campus in the 1970s.

I’m Not Internationally Known, But I’m Known to Rock the BLOG ZONE!!!

Hello lovely readers!  I just wanted to do a quick update on my fabulous life here at Pacific.

Last week was our Spring Break.  It was pretty splendid, I must say.  I spent my break relaxing at home and learning how to swim!  That’s right, until last Thursday, I did not know how to swim.  But I do now!  So the world can continue in its rotation and floatation (har har), because that’s what I’m doing!  Now that I know how to swim, I’m not too worried about becoming Red Cross Lifeguard Certified before June.

A few weeks ago, I found out that I will be spending my summer in Brussels, Belgium!  I found this AMAZING program that allows college students to work with children on military bases throughout the world for the summer, fall, or spring.  After my summer, I will be studying abroad in Marburg, Germany for the entire academic year.  Have you done the math yet?  In case you haven’t, I’ll break it down for you: I will be spending an entire year living in Europe!   I couldn’t be more excited.

Our school will be putting on a performance of the Vagina Monologuesnext week!  Although I was on the cast last year, as a member of “When I Was 12, My Mother Slapped Me” and the opening monologue, I did not have time to audition and participate this year.  However, A few of my friends/co-workers are performing, and, since I surprisingly have a free night next week (ONLY because one of my commitments was cancelled for the next 3 weeks… because I NEVER have free week nights this year), I am planning on going to support them!  I can’t wait to see the performance!  Also, since I am an RA, I am going to encourage my residents to attend as well.  (Shout out to S-Dub 3FL!  Hahaha…)

I am currently in the midst of my pledge process for Alpha Phi Omega, a national co-ed service fraternity.  So, as long as I can complete all my requirements within the next four weeks, I will be initiated in early April.  I’m slowly falling in love with this great group of people, so I’m doing everything possible to make sure that I cross!  And I’m going to start doing everything possible even more because our initiation date is drawing near!

Okay, enough for now.  Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your semester!  You will definitely be hearing more from me in the future!  In the meantime, feel free to i-net stalk me: www.sm-designs.net.  Or, if you’re feeling really curious, just Google me!  ;)

Tschüß,

Saumirah la bella

(I’m so international this week.  Do you love it?)
